Based in East Suffolk, in and around the picturesque, seaside town of Aldeburgh, which was once home to the late, great British composer, Benjamin Britten, JO has been inspiring young performers since 1987. In that year, JO was founded by Jenni Wake-Walker (who worked with Ben in the 1970s) with a landmark production of Britten’s Noye’s Fludde (Noah’s Flood) in Aldeburgh Church. The response from the community was overwhelming. From that moment 37 years ago, the people of Aldeburgh and surrounding villages decided they wanted a permanent opera company for local children to work with professionals on productions of the highest possible quality and standard. Jenni is still at the helm and continues that tradition, offering completely free membership to children of all ages, making the world of opera accessible to every young artist.
